Human Society and Dancing
The Waggle Dance: Honey bees are social insects that use the waggle dance to communicate to other worker bees where food or water sources are in accordance to the hive. This communication is very necessary and as seen in the video on the introduction page, is very effective. It is very interesting to me how this species of insect is able to use dance moves to communicate directions and distances of a wanted substance out in the wild.
The Jitterbug: This form of art was a means for people to express themselves. Dancing can be a freeing activity for people where they listen to music and allowed their minds to stray away from the things in life that may be troubling them. The Jitterbug was popular in the 1920s, this style of dancing was very interesting because of the changing era in which it took place.
Society: These two activities are performed for different reasons but each are of importance. Human society through production agriculture relies very heavily on the pollination of crops. Without these pollinators the yields of these crops would be severely decreased. When bees forage from one flower to the next, they carry pollen to those plants which pollinates them which is required for their reproduction. Beekeeping as an industry is very valuable in current commercial agriculture and is very interesting. Beekeepers ship their bees all over the United States to accommodate for changing seasons and the demand for crop pollination. This project has directed me to consider bees in a different light and further cement the necessity of honey bees as pollinators in our current culture.
