The Jitterbug was a popular style of dance in the U.S. during the early 20th century and involves a combination of swing dance styles [2].
The term Jitterbug was originally said by three people. Harry Alexander White who was a trombonist and drummer on the "Keith Circuit" in 1914 coined the term. Edwin Swayzee who was Mr. Whites trumpeter used the term frequently and wrote a song using it. Both of those musicians later worked with Cab Calloway who was a renowned musician of the time. Mr. Calloway had quite the following of people and since he was friends with White and Swayzee, once Cab started saying Jitterbug, others followed [2].
The dance has many forms and each was popular in specific regions around the United States. Today the Jitterbug basically implies an umbrella term for swing dancing but might be called other names like Hollywood Style, West Coast Swing, Push, Shag, New Yorker, or Bop [2].

Dancing is the art form of the movement of the body. This art form usually takes place to music in rhythmic patterns including gestures and steps by the performer. Dancing is thought to be a fun activity for people to do at parties or special occasions to move around and enjoy the music. It can also be thought of as a form of nonverbal communication in which a lot can be said between two people without actually using words.
